NYC had its first 70Âş day in 2024 this past week. As everyone knows, the first 70Âş day marks the Opening Day of grill szn. So, dust off those tongs and call up family & friends. Grill szn 2024 is upon us. Hereâs three delicious recipes to check out for your first backyard bash:
COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF.

FAVORITE RECIPE ON PEPPER. Spicy Shrimp Bowl by Samantha Tess.
BEST COOKING STORY. My first time cooking for my family I managed to break 24 eggs and light the kitchen cabinet on fire simultaneously. Surprisingly, they still let me cook for them.
HOW SHE LEARNED TO COOK. My mom is a great baker and this carried over into my love for cooking. We both love to learn tips & tricks from each other and share our recipes.
BEST COOKING TIP. Improvise with your ingredients! A lot of people feel discouraged when theyâre missing one or two ingredients, but sometimes this makes for the best recipes!
FOOD NEWS FOR YOU.
things are getting ~spicy~
Momofuku, the culinary brand founded by celebrity chef David Chang, is in hot water after the company sent cease-and-desist letters to 7 companies who also create âChili Crunchâ products like theirs. In response, Simu Liu, actor and Chief Content Officer of food brand MĂŹLĂ , sent out this extra spicy Tweet:
Hey @momofuku, I hear you're bullying businesses over use of the term 'chili crunch'. As Chief Content Officer of MiLa, I propose a blind taste test of both our 'chili crunch' sauces. Winner keeps the name, loser (it'll be you) backs off.
Game on? ;)

Momofuku & Mr. Chang are being accused of bullying smaller manufacturers creating variations of the spicy-oily-crispy condiment. James Park, a recipe developer and author of Chili Crisp: 50+ Recipes to Satisfy Your Spicy, Crunchy, Garlicky Cravings, claimed, "This feels the same thing as if they were going after the term âhot sauceâ or âketchupâ or âmustard.â
So, whatâs the verdict here?
Should Momofuku be able to trademark "Chili Crunch?" |
*After receiving widespread backlash for the cease-and-desist letters, Momofuku and David Chang have reversed course and said they will no longer enforce it - a huge win for the other players in this popular Asian condiment category!
